Every year on the second weekend in September Heritage Open Days recognises the importance of greater access to buildings, ancient and modern, industrial and domestic. For Heritage Open Days this year the Regather Co-op will be celebrating the industrial history of our home at the Horn Handle Works with a display of horn working tools and products.

Setting up on Club Garden Road in Sharrow in 1897 the horn working company Hill Brothers turned and shaped animal horn to create beautiful and functional handles for knives, forks and umbrellas. Co-op member Pete Lees has been re-learning these techniques and will show you some of the tricks of the trade.  There will also be a display of tools, originally used by the workers at the Horn Handle Works and now stored at the Hawley Tool Collection at Kelham Island. Join us on Saturday 13 September between 12 and 2 to find out more …
