Value X Values: Film – Local Food Roots + Discussion
February 14 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm£5
From the first pioneering organic box schemes in the early 1990s to feeding cities and local food culture today, this inspiring documentary chronicles the emergence of an innovative UK local food movement and what this might mean for the future. We’ll also be showing a selection of shorts highlighting some of the work that is going on around the country in this sector.
Following on from the screenings Regather Director, Gareth Roberts, will host a discussion on the topic of ‘Value & Values’ in the food system.
In academic and policy research circles the Regather Box fruit and veg box scheme is recognised as a successful example of a ‘Values Based Food Chain’ (VBFC) which embodies local, co-operative and organic values within a local food system. Drawing on personal experience and contemporary research Gareth Roberts, will provide an overview of VBFCs, explore notions of value and values and share evidence of how food chains which embody local, co-operative and organic values can offer sustainable alternatives to conventional food chains and help promote a more sustainable agri-food system.
