Allotments in Sheffield – Past, Present and Future: Beginning with its early origins in the 18th century through to the present day, we will be linking each phase with historical sources of information. With contributions from from 3 speakers.

Margaret Boulton is from the Sheffield Allotment Federation and author of ‘A History of Allotments in Sheffield’. She will be talking about the history of Allotments in Sheffield beginning with their early origins in the 18th century.

Ceri Ashton is Allotment Manager at Sheffield City Council and will be talking about the numbers and distribution of allotments across the city, demand across the city and what we are doing about it (new sites in areas of high demand, promotion in areas of low demand), major projects over the last few years, the allotment competition, community groups, and partnership working with the allotment federation and allotment societies.

Regather Co-Op has been working closely with the Sheffield Allotments federation and Sheffield City Council to explore options for the sustainable future development of allotment sites in areas of low demand, which will maintain their role and status as publicly owned assets, whilst enabling a greater contribution to local food supply. Talk from Gareth Roberts.
